Nick's Monthly Composing Challenge
A downloadable soundtrack
Note: songs published to older challenges will become available again after the current jam is over (if I remember to set them active again, that is).
Challenge #10
Name: "A New Dawn in Treefur Town"
Story: The picture made me imagine something like the break of a new dawn. It made me want to make a sunrise song, but I ended up making more of a forest town song, so I combined it into 'a new dawn in Treefur town'! It uses different soundfonts too, which is something I am experimenting with.
The song contains Flute (4), General Percussion (3), Viola (4 - it sounds a bit like violin though...), and Steel Guitar (4) for a total cost of 4+3+4+4 = 15 coins!
Challenge #8
Name: "Wicked Pine-Woods" (old: "Piccolo Treetops")
Time-signature: 7/8
Story: These images often make me think of a 'journey', and so I am continuing the journey of my previous entry! Forest songs often have weird time signatures (e.g. 'Eterna Forest') and so it felt fitting. Hence, a weird forest-y 7/8 song!
Name: "Celesta's Cold"
Time-signature: 7/8
Story: A second entry! I love making weird time signatures work, and since I have been playing a lot of Zelda Spirit Tracks again (which contain loads of 7/8 songs!), I got inspired to try a different version. What is at the end of the Wicked Pine-Woods? A cozy Snow-town of course, "Celesta's Cold"!
Challenge #5
Name: "Route1"
Story: The image made me want to create a 'first route on your journey' song, like Pokemon's first route songs. I created a song and then changed the song to solo piano. For this reason, I share both the piano and non-piano songs (shown as 'NON-PIANO'). Please rate only the piano versions!
Challenge #4
Name: "Stuck in a Jaze"
Story: You get it? Maze.. Jazz.. Jaze? Ah never mind. I have only ever made one 'jazzy' song before. I have learned from personal experience that Jazzy songs tend to have:
- Wacky rhythms
- No fear of diatonic notes or seventh chords
- Fast piano sections
Although I still dislike most sevenths, I have incorporated the other ones in my song to hopefully give it a jazzy vibe! How is the maze incorporated, you ask? Well, isn't jazz always kind of like a maze already? Confusing and wild!
